A quick knit perfect for Multi Colored hand dyed yarns!

I love Sedona, Arizona. It’s such a magical place and so there needed to be a hat named after this beautiful city. The Sedona Hat was designed to allow colorful hand-dyed yarns to be the star of the show! Enjoy this FREE knitting hat pattern!

March 5, 2021 (updated April 23, 2021)

I love a soft bulky yarn. I love yarn with lots of colors. I love a good hand-dyed yarn. And I definitely love a free knit hat pattern! So when you get a yarn that is bulky, multi-colored, hand dyed, and free . . . it’s more than a triple whammy!

Back when I used to work in yarn shops, I would hear people pick up multi colored yarns and say, “I love it, but I don’t know what I would make with it.” I totally get it. The color is the story and few stitch patterns allow for crazy colors to really sing without being too muddled. Finding the right stitch pattern to compliment a heavily variegated yarn can sometimes be tricky.

You have to choose a stitch pattern that is simple because nobody wants to do a bunch of complicated knitting only for it to get lost in the colors. This stitch pattern also has to have a nice texture that looks pleasing as an allover design. Sure, you could go with stockinette stitch or even seed stitch, but that is just boring after awhile!

I designed this hat to really allow for heavily colored yarns to be the star of the show, but without allowing for the stitch design to be boring. This texture compliments the yarn colors and keeps your stitching interesting. (And I just love the colorways that Brediculous Yarns dyes up!)

This hat knits up quickly and I bet that it would also look beautiful in a very lightly variegated or even a solid colored yarn. But when you find that one skein of beautifully hand-dyed yarn that you love, but don’t know what to do with - here is a hat pattern that is perfect for you!

And if you love Sedona or have never been and are thinking it might be a great place to explore, check out my blog here that tells you all the things I recommend you do while visiting this beautiful part of the Southwest.

In the meantime, enjoy the free Sedona Hat knitting pattern below. And if you love it, please share this link with friends and help spread the love!

SEDONA Hat Pattern

North of Phoenix, Sedona is a picturesque town surrounded by red-rock buttes, pine forests, and steep canyon walls. Home to Red Rocks State Park, the beautiful canyon walls reveal nine layers of stone from different geographical periods spanning over hundreds of millions of years. The iconic red color that makes up Sedona’s surroundings comes from the rich iron oxide that has formed on the individual grains of rocks and creates the beautiful rust color that the city is known for.
