Hello, I’m Krista Ann
aka Knitsy! And this little ball of fluff is our baby girl, Dr. Phineas – aka Phinny.
When I was 18, I had major back surgery to stabilize my rapidly progressing scoliosis. I now have a rod screwed to my spine and I like to say I’m bionic!
It took a few years, but I finally talked my husband into selling almost everything we own and move into an RV so that we could hit the road and be full-timers traveling the US.
I do not like wearing makeup! The few times I do have to throw some mascara on, I forget I’m wearing it and end up rubbing my eyes and having to wipe away the racoon eyes.
I really struggle with sleeping at night. I can’t get my brain to turn off. To help me sleep, my husband recorded the audio files for the entire Big Bang Theory series and I listen to it at night so that my focus can be on something other than the list of things I have to get done. Surprisingly, this does not lead to weird dreams!
My hubby is a super talented musician. He plays a bunch of instruments (guitar, bass, mandolin, piano, drums, etc) and at one point, he was in twelve different bands from punk rock to bluegrass.
6. During my very early years, I was a music publicist for a short period of time. I worked some really big artists, but I quickly learned that I didn’t really like working for musicians. I did, however, marry one!
7. I am a huge cat lover. I love all animals, but cats win me over every time! I’ve had a cat in my life for as long as I can remember.
8. I’m a process knitter (not a product knitter). I love to knit all day every day, but I don’t really care about keeping the finished piece. I love the process of knitting, but am happy to send off the finished piece to someone else that will enjoy and appreciate it!
9. I’m a total band nerd. In high school, I was in the marching band for all four years. I played in the percussion pit my freshman year and was on the drumline the other three years.
10. I love photography. My favorite thing to photograph is wildlife because it is unpredictable and you never know what you are going to see or what animals will be doing. I try to always have my camera with me so that I can be prepared to capture wild animals in their natural habitat!
Some of my earliest memories are of creating collages with flowers from my Nana’s garden, my mom teaching me how to read a cross stitch chart, and sitting in a row of three with my mom and grandma in the craft room beading until late into the night. I always hated going to bed because I wanted to do “just one more bead” or “one more stitch.” That has definitely not changed!
Crafting was always something I enjoyed. I tinkered in many different mediums and took a lot of classes at craft shops and even some at the local city college. Beading was my first love, but it wasn’t until I learned how to knit that I discovered what an obsession was.
Knitting helped me survive the stress of college and I soon found a home in the community that surrounded the fiber arts. I have made so many friends within this community over the years and discovered that if you enjoy knitting or crochet, it is highly likely that you love animals and travel just as much as I do.
As I sat on that couch stitching through a crazy deadline, my mind would wander to a world in which I could travel AND knit at the same time. The concept of becoming an RV nomad soon took shape and with a bit of online research, I discovered a whole world of people that were doing what I wanted to do. Now it was time to get the husband on board.
It took a few years, but I finally talked Garner (my hubby) into going on this crazy adventure with me. Phinny was along for the ride as well. And so…we bought an RV, sold just about everything we owned, packed up the fur ball and hit the road!
And here we are today. Our home is on wheels while we travel the US with excursions to other countries. I always have my knitting in hands, camera around my neck, and Garner and Phinny by my side. We might not lead a normal life, but our parents would say that nothing about us was ever normal anyways!
